Equity

Equity is a trade union for actors, stage managers, comedians and dancers. They make sure actors demands are heard. This could be for better pay, better health and safety and more opportunities for everyone, no matter gender, sexuality or religion.

BECTU

BECTU is the UK's media and entertainment trade union. This includes independent film, theatre and broadcasting. They negotiate pay, conditions and contracts with employers, provide benefits and services for members, advice on health and safety and provide training support and courses.

PACT

PACT is the trade union for producers. They help them get property rights. They also promote fair access for all.

Insurance

All uk media producers need public liability insurance in order to receive permission to film. This should be obtained early on in pre production.

Health and safety

health and safety is important because if someone gets hurt during filming it can stop filming and the filmmakers can get sued. Its a legal requirement to have health and safety precautions and have them shown around the workplace. An example of an actor getting hurt and stopping production is Harrison Ford. During the filming of Star Wars Episode VII he broke his leg.

Working with children 

If you are working with a child of compulsory school age they might need a Child Performer Licence. A child can only work for a few hours a day, they also have to be educated while on set as they are missing school. They have to be supervised at all times.

Working with animals

The animals have to be supervised and have a handler/owner with them. you can't put them in pain or cause them distress. You can't force the animal to do things.

Minimum pay 

You have to make sure your employees are getting at least minimum wage.
