Codes of practice in film making

Equity Equity is a trade union for actors, stage managers, comedians and dancers. They make sure actors demands are heard. This could be for better pay, better health and safety and more opportunities for everyone, no matter gender, sexuality or religion. BECTU BECTU is the UK's media and entertainment trade union. This includes independent film, theatre and broadcasting. They negotiate pay, conditions and contracts with employers, provide benefits and services for members, advice on health and safety and provide training support and courses. PACT PACT is the trade union for producers. They help them get property rights. They also promote fair access for all. logistics of production

It's important to budget and to pre-production expenditure for a media production because producers only have a certain amount of money for a film and they have to make that money back. They have to make sure they have enough to hire equipment, actors, food, props etc. They budget so they can make sure they have enough money for the whole film and they don't run out half way through. They need to pre-plan so that if anything goes wrong they have a backup plan. For example if its raining and you need it to be sunny there will be a plan b so that they aren't waiting around for the weather to clear up. Even when the producers make sure they have enough money and have pre-planned everything there can still be unforeseen circumstances that halt production. Regulations

The regulatory body for newspapers is IPSO, The Independent Press Standards Organisation. They have an editors that newspapers have to follow. There are 16 points in the Editors code. A few of these are: Accuracy, Privacy, Harassment, Intrusion into grief or shock and Reporting suicide. Television's regulatory body is OFCOM. This deals with live TV, Radio and pre recorded tv. For live Tv and Radio there is a 10 second delay so if something goes wrong they can quickly switch to something else. OFCOM has ten Broadcasting codes that must be followed. A few of these are: Protecting under eighteens, Harm and Offence, Crime, Disorder, Hatred and Abuse, Religion and Fairness. People are able to complain about newspapers on the IPSO website. These will then be checked by IPSO and will be resolved. If a newspaper has been found to be in breach of the code IPSO can make them write an apology or punish them. Films are funded by the production company, such as Universal or Warner Bros, these companies will give a director money in order to make their film. The production company will want to make this money back when the movie is released or they will have lost a huge amount of money. Other ways films make money are through cinema ticket sales, merchandise, toys, games, dvd sales, sponsorship deals, and foreign releases. Independent films can get funding away from production companies. Some businesses will give money to film makers because they like what they're doing. The BFI can give people funding, you can get a National Lottery grant, or they can get a loan from a bank. People may also use crowdfunding to make money. Websites like GoFundMe allow people to donate to other people for various causes. Tv programmes on commercial channels such as ITV and Channel 4 get their funding from adverts and sponsorship deals.
